Gunze Circular Factory Project Launched

Gunze Limited proudly announces the launch of the Gunze Circular Factory Project at its Moriyama Factory, located near Lake Biwa – the largest lake in Japan.

For nearly 60 years, the Moriyama plant has produced shrink film for PET bottles and various packaging applications. Now, it is being reborn as a Circular Factory, aiming to create a sustainable society where plastic resources are continuously recycled.

The project is built around the circulation of the three “M”: Material, Machine, and Man.

Material: All film waste is collected, shredded, and reused as raw material, reducing manufacturing waste to zero.

Machine: Through digitalization and automation, production becomes smarter and more efficient, with solar energy and groundwater cooling ensuring an eco-friendly operation.

Man: Gunze values human creativity, combining the knowledge and passion of its people to develop recycling technologies and sustainable products.

A new energy-efficient office and recycling center are also planned, with the Moriyama model set to expand to domestic and overseas factories by 2026.

The Gunze Circular Factory Project marks the first step toward a future where innovation and sustainability work hand in hand — for the planet, for people, and for generations to come.
